MANILA – Giant telecommunications providers Globe Telecom and PLDT Inc on Monday assured the public of continuity of service in areas under enhanced community quarantine.
In a statement, Globe said at least 57 NCR Plus stores will remain open during the period.
Metro Manila, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite and Laguna were placed under ECQ from March 29 to April 4 to stem the spread of COVID-19.
“Globe is one with Filipinos in the fight against the spread of the virus. The company is committed to supporting its customers with reliable connectivity and extra protection at home,” the phone company said.
PLDT and its wireless unit Smart Communications, meanwhile, said its network operations and customer support facilities will continue to operate despite the temporary closure of its physical stores to NCR Plus.
“Due to the extended curfew hours (6:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.) and IATF rules only allowing mobility for essential services, physical stores in ECQ areas will temporarily cease operations, but frontline customer service agents will be on duty working from home to support virtual appointments. and address customer concerns, ”said PLDT Inc.
“We will continue to maintain customer focus through technology, while ensuring the safety of our customers and employees,” said Alfredo S. Panlilio, President and CEO of Smart and Director of Revenue at PLDT.
Panlilio said the phone company was able to respond to inquiries virtually.
Non-essential establishments are temporarily closed during the period with the exception of grocery stores, banks, hospitals and other essential establishments.
Among the industries allowed to operate at full capacity are the following, based on IATF Resolution 106-A:
- Agriculture, forestry and fishing and their workers, including farmers, ARBs, fishermen and agri-fishing shops
- Health, emergency and frontline services
- Delivery and courier services transporting food, medicine or other essential goods
