Delhi: ‘First virtual school already launched by NIOS last year’ | Town
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, describing the virtual school he inaugurated on Wednesday as the first such institution in the country, intrigued officials of the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), as it has been almost a year since an open virtual school of the same conceptualization under NIOS was launched last year. NIOS released a statement later on Wednesday to refute the Delhi government’s claim that its Delhi Model Virtual School is India’s first online institution. “Referring to some media reports regarding claims that India’s first virtual school will be launched today, it is informed that the country’s first virtual school has already been launched by NIOS in August 2021,” the statement read. Saroj Sharma, President of NIOS, said, “We are successfully running the first virtual school opened since last year. All academic subjects offered to NIOS learners are also offered to Virtual School students with flexibility in subject choice. Sharma said advanced virtual learning takes place in virtual classrooms and virtual labs. Recorded sessions and videos of lessons and lectures are available for students. Live and interactive sessions are also organized.
